3 Tips for WFH
As Brunei’s in the midst of it’s third-wave of the pandemic, many employees are returning to working from home (WFH). Understandably, working -let alone focusing- while being surrounded by anxiety and rapidly moving news is difficult. So we thought that we’d share some tips that have worked for us:
1) Retain as much normalcy as you can
-Despite not dressing up for work or commuting to your workplace, try your best to act out the routine of a normal working day. Which means that you should start working and only work during your designated working hours and have breaks the way you would have them at your workplace. This also means that you remove house chore distractions during that time. It might be tempting to tend to other things but maintaining normalcy will help you sustain yourself in these uncertain times.
2) Clear separation of work and life
-Due to the environment that you are working in, it can be easy to carry over work into life. We recommend that you practice setting boundaries for yourself. Our tip: once your working hour has ended, just closing work tabs on your computer will help remove any connection or reminder of work. And if you have a work phone, simply put it on silent and have it face downwards. These two simple actions already remove any call to action for work.
3) Go easy on yourself
-What you are going through is truly unprecedented, challenging, confusing and tiring. So don’t beat yourself up because everyone is trying their best and you should be more kind to yourself. One thing that has helped us is to keep in touch with family and friends and practice self-compassion.
Thank you for reading and we can only hope that we will get back to something close to the normal world very soon. Stay safe!
